It would be remiss of me to not celebrate this day, even though this is the first time I’ve known it existed. Yes, today is International Bagpipe Day, the day when you can truly enjoy the pipes all day long.

Love or hate ‘em – I love ‘em – pipes are amazing. This is the seventh year this day has been happening, the first taking place in 2012 to celebrate the instrument and its history.

A couple of facts for you: did you know that there are more than 130 different types of bagpipe across the world? Or that the oldest recorded representation of bagpipes is on a Hittite slab dating back to 1000 BC?
