Two videos, The Nevers and flexing my writing fingers

Hi, how are you all? Hope you’re well. Today, I’ve got a couple of videos to share with you. The first is just an awkward hello from me. Here it is…

That’s my very messy study in the background. I have loads of books and loads of bookcases, those behind me are a fraction of what I’ve got. It’s a bit of an addiction I’m afraid.

The second video is a wee advert for me and my books. What do you think?

I made it on a site called Boosted by Lightricks. I had a lot of fun doing it and plan to do many more. You have been warned!

Right, so what have you been up to over the past week or so? I’ve been really busy doing a few training and business development sessions. Plus, I also set down a plan which involves getting up earlier so I can write 1500 words of my latest novel. The aim was to get up at 6am and was supposed to start today. What time did I get up at? It was 7am. I must have hit snooze several times. Sigh. Anyway, tomorrow I plant to rise earlier.

The Nevers

Have you seen the new Joss Whedon series, The Nevers? It’s showing on HBO, stars a number of well-known and not-so-well-known British actors and is very good. I was hooked from the start. Disclaimer: I should point out that I am a huge Joss Whedon fan and loved Firefly, Buffy Vampire Slayer and Angel. God love them, but the kids have been indoctrinated into Joss Whedon’s genius from very early on and are also fans of his works. Anyway, please give The Nevers a look, it’s good.

Sex in the City

Apart from that, I’ve been binge watching Sex in the City. I was an avid fan of it in the 90s and early noughties, and hadn’t seen it since it finished (apart from the two films). I’d forgotten how funny it was. I watched it and was back in my 20s again. It was heaven. I love being nostalgic and Sex in the City brought it all back. I’ve completely finished the tv series and am now going to watch the two films. I never thought they were as good, but we’ll see.

My writing

Okay, the important stuff now. My writing. I’ve done very little lately so busy am I with my social media/PR work plus I had to do my end of module assignment for my uni course. That is now finished, so I have no excuses for not writing. Flexing my writing fingers as I type.

General Life

It’s been great lately. I’ve managed to see a few friends and relatives over the last three or four weeks. It’s been such a long time since we got together, it was fantastic to just be together. Scotland is hopefully coming out of this pandemic. However, the Indian variant of Covid is on these shores, there are cases here and I’m worried we’re looking at another lockdown. Fingers crossed that isn’t the case.

Right, I am going to finish up here and say goodnight. Am away to watch more of the The Nevers. Till next time.

Drat! Foiled again…no romantic lunch for us!

1438990_33675911

Hello. How are you? What’s been happening? What’s the gossip? Me? Truthfully, my life hasn’t been exciting lately. I could make something up. I could say I flew to Paris with hubby for a romantic moonlit dinner under the Eiffel Tower. I could say I’m just back from trekking to Machu Picchu and brought back a lhama, but none of those two fantasies are true. Sigh.

Hey ho! Instead, this morning, hubby and I attempted to go to Clydebank to do a bit of shopping and to pick up a bit of lunch. We got as far as Dalmuir, which is pretty much as close to Clydebank as you can get without actually being in Clydebank when we got a call from our local school. The girl was sick. We had to turn about to get her. I am telling you this story not because it’s particularly interesting – it’s not – but because every single time we try and go out for lunch over the last couple of years one of the kids have been ill and we’ve had to pick them up from school. It’s not like there was any sign of illness before we sent them to school – we’re not such bad parents. Honestly it’s like someone is trying to tell us we shouldn’t go out for lunch together. The kids don’t know our plans beforehand, but they must psychically be picking up on our plans to spend time together! Anyway, we had to return home and she’s now in bed, tucked up having been given the magical elixir that is Calpol.

It’s been weird. For months I’ve been procrastinating with writing and haven’t been daydreaming up any new stories for, well, several months, years even. But the past few weeks, since hubby’s been getting better, my beloved daydreaming has returned and ideas have been popping up for stories and other crafty things all over the place. It’s like I’ve got my mojo back. I think it’s to do with the fact I’ve been doing yoga every day and meditating regularly. I feel mentally and physically good, so it makes sense my writing mojo is returning. Yoga has also been great for getting my old lady bones moving and not stiffening up. I was feeling I was getting really inflexible from all the driving and sitting around I was doing whilst hubby was in hospital. Now I can do a downward dog without even thinking about it!!

Fisherman's Canoe on Beach

Have you noticed the images I’ve put in this blog? There is a theme. If you want to, drop me a message and tell me what you think it is.

So they’ve finally gone and done it. Castle and Beckett have married! Finally! I thought the episode was not up to it’s usual highly entertaining standard though. I mean – Castle going into another dimension?? A bit twee, but hey I still love the series. Hubby maintains I love anything on tv that features a writer and he’s not wrong. Some of my favourite films: You’ve Got Mail, Something’s Gotta Give, Julie & Julia…need I go on? TV programmes are the same, hence the love of Castle – although the murder mystery bit of it is a big part of my enjoyment of the show. Plus Nathan Fillion who plays Richard Castle was also Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly. What’s not to love about a programme that has him, murder, Stana Katic as a kickass Kate Beckett and a writer in it?

Am having Game of Thrones withdrawal at the moment. I’m trying to keep away from all the theories on Facebook about Jon Snow, it’s giving me too much hope the character will come back. The good thing is my favourite character Tyrion Lannister is still there…long may he continue!

Right I must be off to do some planning (yes – writing planning) and other bits and pieces. Til next time!

A quick hello and thanks to my readers

Firefly

Just a quick post to say hello and thanks to the readers who read this blog and/or comment or Like. Just wanted to say I appreciate it.

PS nearing the end of the Firefly extravaganza…would have finished if my husband hadn’t introduced me to Lie to Me. Oh my God that’s a good series. Sigh. The wicked telly monster has me it its thrall again. Sigh. I did, however, manage to write a couple of thousand words today, so all is not lost!!

Am totally addicted to Firefly and other stories…

tulip march 2014

Hello! How are you? What’s been happening in your life?? Well, the biggest thing that’s happened in my life is that I’ve become addicted to Firefly. I’m a Nathan Fillion fan anyway being a huge fan of Castle, so it was not difficult to move to Firefly. I couldn’t get into the series when it was on tv, I don’t know why. Maybe I didn’t give it a long enough go. Anyway, I’ve been watching it on Netflix and loving it. Been using it as the background to my knitting my friend Laurina a hat for her birthday last week. I haven’t quite finished the hat, but it’ll be ready by the time I get back to work on Monday.

Zinnia

Still reading The Fellowship of the Ring. At last the Hobbits have met Aragorn. There was an awful lot of shilly shallying around and getting caught by this danger and that danger…things that would probably have been edited out in a modern book as being blocks to the story. However, I finally feel we’re getting there…thank goodness. Still enjoying it.

Picked up my Christopher Brookmyre book last week…the one I won. Well I won up to £10 to spend on a book of my choice. My husband’s response: “Oh just what you need – another book!” 🙂

Been a bit lazy on the writing front this week. I just can’t be bothered, so I decided to take a small break. I will do a bit this afternoon and tomorrow. Those books won’t get written by themselves so if I really want to get them finished I need to work on them!!

The weather here has been terrible this week: one minute bright sunshine, the next hail and rain. I don’t think the weather knows what it’s doing!! The frustrating part is that I’ve been unable to get out walking. Hopefully it’ll be dry next week.

Ooh, before I forget…just a quick Happy Birthday to young Eva L!! She’s nine next week. Hope you have a good day.

Right, I’d best be off. Got another exciting episode of Firefly to watch! I know! I’m so sad, but I just love sci-fi!!

Til next time
